So why is the aircraft named 'June'? After disassebling the aircraft in October 2020, I began to remove old fabric covering the wings in November. On Veterans Day, 11 November 2020 as I began a closer inspection of all the wood in the left wing I discovered the signature "Love June". From historical photos and first hand accounts we know that women worked in many areas of the Stinson Factory in Wayne, Michigan. Specifically, we know that women did the fabric covering of aircraft so it is very likely that June was one of these newly trained factory workers and she signed it just before she covered it. We made sure to preserve the signature and apply a good coat of varnish before covering with new fabric so it will continue to be preserved for someone to discover again many years from now. If anyone has any information about who June might be or of the factory workers at Stinson please contact me. Update - Through the Wayne Historical Society of Wayne, Michigan they found reference to two ladies named June who worked at the factory in 1943, first was June McNear and the other was June Buzz. It would be interesting to know if either of these two ladies was the one who signed the airplane 80 years ago.
