Recieves overseas training at the 5th Replacement Battalion, 7th Replacement Depot, Infantry Replacement Training Center, Camp Kunkle, Oujda, North Africa

Initally assigned to G Company (Provisional) 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion for replacement orientation and training

22 Jan 1944 - Participated in Operation SHINGLE the amphibious landing at Anzio, Italy
23 Feb 1944 - At 1900 hrs - Wounded in Action with shrapnel in legs, arms and back. He was unconscious, when rescued by scout patrol
24 Feb 1944 - Admitted to 15th Evacuation Hospital (Semi-Mobile) Wounded by Shell fragment. 1. Perf W left arm severing brachial A&V, exposing but not injuring median and ulna nerve. 2. Perf W right forearm, severing all flexor muscles, bellied exposing but not injuring median and ulnar nerves. 3. Pen W left forearm, foreign body removed. 4. Pen W left buttocks, foreign body removed. 5. Perf W right thigh, foreign body removed. 6. Pen W left thigh, foreign body removed. 7. Perf W right popliteal space. 8. Perf W left foot, FCC 1 metatarsal.
05 Mar 1944 - Award of Purple Heart Medal per GO 9, HQ 118th Station Hospital
05 May 1944 - Departed EAME for US
Was on Hospital ship in Naples, Italy then went back to the States
14 May 1944 - Arrived US
Spent more time in Naval Hospitals and had most of the shrapnel removed
Recovered enough to be assigned to a Transporation Unit at Fort Dix, NJ
