08 Nov 1942 - Pvt. Paul E. Legg 35168694 HHC 2nd Bn 509th PIR Vincennes, IN, participated in Operation TORCH (VILLIAN) the airborne invasion of North Africa, Plane: 6, Seat: 10, Combat Weight: 260 lbs

Their plane got lost and landed at Gibraltar and was restricted from taking off again.

10 Nov 1942 - Their plane took off from Gilbratar and proceeded to Algeria to join up with the rest of the 509th.

15 Nov 1942 - Participated in combat jump at Youks les Baines

14 Sep 1943 - Cpl. Paul E. Legg 35168694, 2nd Bn, 509th PIR, Participated in Operation GIANT III the airborne invasion of Avellino, Italy

Family recalls that he landed in a tree where a German stabbed him with a knife in the stomach. He survived the war but had complications for the rest of his life due to the wounds received.

10 Apr 1944 - Cpl. Paul Legg 35168694 HHC, 509th PIB, GO 5, The following named Officers and Enlisted Men of Companies indicated having fulfilled all requirements as set forth in Par #3. a&b, Section I, WD Circular #269, dated 27 October 1943, are hereby announced as Combat Infantrymen and are entitled to wear the badge as specified in WD Circular above.
