SUMMARY OF SERVICE: I believe he made 4 jumps (2 in North Africa, Avellino and Southern France).  He was in the unit all the way to the Bulge where he was wounded, probably around St. Vith.  He received a Bronze Star for action that occurred around Jan of 1945.  He passed away in 1983.  Ralph Cullers from Oregon was his best friend during the war and has also passed away.  I believe he was also in the unit from North Africa to the Bulge.
Charles DeSha made a career out of the army and retired in 1972 as a CSM.  He jumped with the 101st at Fort Campbell and met Sgt Huff (Sergeant Major at the time).  There is also a photo of him and SGM Huff taken in the late 50s or early 60s where they are receiving some kind of recognition related to the 509th.
