08 Nov 1942 - SSgt. Maynard L. Carp 33061114 Supply, 2nd Bn, 509th PIR, Hometown: Baltimore, MD Participated in Operation TORCH the airborne invasion of Oran, North Africa, Plane: 1 Seat: 2 Combat Weight: 290 lbs. He was on the plane that was not able to find the objective. When they found a place to land they had the paratroopers jump first to lighten the aircraft then proceeded to land. They were in the vicinity of Ain Aicha and were soon taken into custody by French Moroccan guards.The first night they were held and questioned in Tournati.
09 Nov 1942 - Moved under guard to Fez for further questioning.
11 Nov 1942 - Moved under guard to Rabat and held as prisoners.
13 Nov 1942 - Released to American authorities at Port Lyanty
18 Nov 1942 - After aircrew retrieved aircraft they picked up the paratroopers and flew them to Casablanca.
00 May 1943 - SSgt. Maynard L. Carp recieves battlefield comission and is promoted to 2nd Lt.
00 May 1943 - 2nd Lt. Maynard L. Carp is transferred to 5th Army Airborne Training Center
