He had a son later in life and was hiking the Appalachian Trail and backing packing with our scout troop when he was sixty. He is still in excellent health. Attached is a citation about Ralph from page 199 of "Bloody Battle at Sadzot" by William Breuer. Ralph received the Silver Star for retrieving two boxes of machine gun ammunition as a result of this incident. Ralph joined the 509th in Italy before Anzio and remained with the 509th until it was disbanded.
