Awarded to the 509th PIB at Youks les Bains, North Africa

Description: The silver device features a snarling hyena surmounting a crescent that bears the motto "J'y Suis, J'y Reste" "Here I am, Here I Remain"

Badge was approved for permanent wear by Soldiers of the 509th Parachute Infantry directed Headquarters, North African Theater of Operations. This was the first foreign badge awarded to U.S. troops in WWII

Original French 3rd Zouaves Regiment badge stamped with pin style back and no markings. Both the pin back and the space between the top of the Z and the top of the 3 is filled in making it different from ones that were presented in North Africa.
